With woodcut title-vignette small hole on title-page rep. 422021 pp. First French edition published in Paris in 1800 Déportation et naufrage de J.J. Aymé. - Aymé 1752-1818 imprisoned during the French Revolution was sent to Guiana Devil's Island as a prisoner. He recounts in detail the horrendous conditions in French Guiana. After a year he escaped in an American ship bound for Gothenburgh. The ship encountered a very bad storm in the North Sea and at last struck on the coast of Scotland near Fraserburgh. Most of those on board were lost but Aymé and a few others were taken off the wreck by a boat from shore. Aymé at last returned to France. Including information on the colony and the inhabitants and an alphabetical list of names of deportees and the ships they embarked upon. Cf. Sabin 2521; Huntress 132C; Work p.275; not in Cat.
