Henri Antoine Regnard de Gironcourt (1719-1786), became a lawyer at Epinal in 1746 and published several Mémoires dealing with taxes on merchandise to be levied on behalf of religious orders, a practice which existed since the tenth century. He also wrote a number of works and articles on the history of the Lorraine. The present work was his most important and is an esteemed historical treatise on French finances and the responsible officers. - Very good copy and rare.

Portrait engraved by Tardiue after Rigaud. Plates see below. Extremities rubbed but generally sound except for signs of repair occasional foxing to a few plates but a very good set. First this edition this being copy #70 of 80 numbered copies printed on grand raisin vélin. This set has been extra-illustrated with eleven inserted or mounted plates engraved by various hands after drawings by Moreau le Jeune and Clement Marillier originally prepared for the edition of 1789- 90. In addition bound into volumes II-IV are a total of eight original pen ink and wash drawings attributed to Achille Devéria 1800 - 1857 ca 75 x 55 mm. plus margins each accompanied by an example of the engraving based on the drawing engraved by Pouvoyeur Massard and others. The drawings are captioned in pencil and dated generally 1821. OCLC/ Worldcat locates examples of four engravings by the Massards after Devéria's illustrations for Regnard. VICAIRE VI:6995. In the original French.A sammelband of seven French theatrical works the majority being comedies from popular playwrights.The first work is a 1757 edition of 'La Coquette Corrigee' by 'Delanoue' the pseudonym of Jean-Baptiste Simon Sauvé de La Noue.The second work is a very 1763 edition of 'Le Droit du Seigneur' by Voltaire published in the same year as the unauthorised first single volume edition of the five act play.The third play is Charles Simon Favart's popular comedy 'L'Anglois a Bordeaux'. A very scarce copy published in the same year as the play was first performed.The fourth comedy is a scarce 1765 early edition of Charles Simon Favart's comedy 'Isabelle et Gertrude ou Les Sylphes Supposes'. Published in the same year as the first edition but with different pagination and lacking the six sheets of music present in the first edition.The fifth work is a posthumously published 1758 edition of playwright Philippe Nericault Destouches's 'Le Philosophe Marie' which was first produced in 1927.The sixth work is a 1765 edition of Jean-Francois Regnard's 'Le Joueur' first performed in 1696.The final work is the very scarce tragic drama 'Marcellus ou Les Persecutions: Tragedie Chretienne' by Ponce Dehaye-Polet.
