The two get to talking and Robins tells how he managed to lose an eye and a best friend at Trafalgar and then a leg in the course of his naval career. He spent quite a while "in the service of sin" but eventually found his way back to the Lord and now is perfectly happy to have been "a brand plucked out of the burning." Well to each his own. Worldcat dates this pretty little book at 1826. It stands 4 1/4 inches tall and is bound in quarter leather over marbled boards with gilt spine lettering. In fact this was a promotional for a stuffed whale exhibit. The centerfold is an illustration of Capt. Lew Nichols pictured chomping his cigar on page 1 killing a sixty-eight ton Blue Fin-Back. Whatever species it actually was Nichols stuffed it and exhibited it in Chicago where over half a million people availed themselves of the opportunity of seeing this giant sea monster in the flesh.
