Jacket edges rubbed with minor loss from corners toned tape repairs on reverse of jacket spine head and foot minor scuff on front board. 1935 Hard Cover. 255 pp. First mystery and one of only two using this pseudonym by Frederick Faust who also wrote under the pen name Max Brand. From the half-title page: "It is the tale of John Witherby physical superman in a contest of strength and racing smashing violence with a man called the Doctor and his gorillas for possession of John's inheritance and for the fancy of the Doctor's female decoy. Savage and brutal without let-down it casts a rare spell." From the jacket flap: "It is a favorable sign in a murder mystery if the author has refrained from the use of any secret underground passage and of any sly and slinking Orientals. That means a suspicion that the mystery has originality. And originality is the feature that first flashes at you out of the pages of Cross Over Nine. The Macaulay Company hardcover
1935000200New York: MacAulay 1935. First Edition in Dust Jacket. . Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. Bound in dark cloth and printed in red the volume is cocked internally quite nice and clean if a bit mellowed. DUST JACKET is bright unfaded and clean with 3/8" chips to head and tail of spine and is Not Price Clipped. Frederick Faust wrote as Max Brand and for two mystery novels as Walter Butler. A prodigious writer and a clever mind filled with stories Faust seldom wrote or placed his stories in California. Although growing up in the Central Valley and working in San Francisco his stories tell little of his roots in the Goledn State. Cross Over Nine and Night Flower are two of his elusive Mystery thrillers. Size: Octavo

MacAulay hardcover

1927PAG164Steuben Society of America Cambridge MA: 1927. 1927 Two volumes in one. pp: xxviii 591; xi 730 Frontis & illustrations. 8vo. Original publisher's blue cloth binding. Bookplate of Henry S. Engart. This remarkably detailed work is still the best introduction to the German influence in American life and culture from the colonial period. Leaving no stone unturned The German Element in the United States is conveniently arranged in two volumes. Volume I treats German immigration colonial and early national settlement and participation in the great political or military upheavals of American history while Volume II looks at the economic social cultural and educational contributions made by persons of German birth/descent and Germanic cultural influences. While some of the information in these volumes has no doubt been superseded the researcher would have to venture far and wide to discover in another work anything approaching Faust's detailed research. Very fine example. PRICE JUST REDUCED! PA 04B Language: eng. Hardcover. Near Fine. Steuben Society of America, Cambridge, MA: 1927. hardcover
