200250682St. Ermin's Press 2002. 8vo. First Edition with plates; black cloth gilt back brown endpapers a fine copy in unclipped dustwrapper. The Political Warfare Executive is probably the least known of Britain's secret services of WWII. This official history was written by Garnett who served as PWE's Director of Training 'on instructions from the Director-General of the Political Warfare Executive given under the authority of the Foreign Secretary'. Compiled between 1945 and 1952 the history was immediately classified and consigned to Whitehall's secret archives. Declassified in 2002 under the fifty-year rule the history is almost unique in having been prepared so soon after the events described - and by an eminent author at that. An extraordinary and often discreditable story of inter-service and inter-departmental rivalry particularly with SOE and one of the final pieces of a larger and crucial jigsaw. VERY SCARCE ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION. St. Ermin's Press, hardcover
