Johann Christian Friedrich Holderlin 1770-1843 was a German poet described as "the most German of Germans"; he was a key figure in German Romanticism and an important thinker in the development of German Idealism N.B. info from Wikipedia. This volume contains Holderlin's poem "Der Rhein" accompanied by a sequence of linocuts by Julije Knifer 1924-2004 which depict the meandering geometric forms for which he was known. The poem and prints move between each other interweaving to create a gently tangible reading of Holderlin's text.<br/><br/>___DESCRIPTION: Original white paper wraps with tan linocut and black lettering on the front cover tan linocuts by Knifer printed on each page behind the text; Janson Antiqua type Velin d'Arches paper quarto size 11.5" by 9" 15 unnumbered pages number 180 of 222 copies signed by the artist.
