A fine set. Both issues come with loose folded single-sheet inserts entitled Stop Press. The 1947 insert details a competition devised and to be judged by Ian Fleming. The 1948 insert has adjudication. The first insert precedes Flemings December 1947 Horizon piece. Fine and very rare as a set together.

Both issues are in VG condition. Included in the No 5 issue is an insert entitled A & I: STOP PRESS a 4-page Supplement to Alphabet and Image. On page 4 is the announcement of a competition devised by Ian Fleming to evolve a 27th character for the alphabet. Mr Fleming will be the sole judge. The prize is a book token of 5 guineas. "WEEKEND" was a weekly paper published by Associated Newspapers in the 50's and 60's. This edition is a special one as includes the first episode of a serialised 'New ' as of Spring 1960 Ian Fleming James Bond Story 'For Your Eyes Only'.the Book of short stories by Ian Fleming containing 'For Your Eyes only' had been published approximately 4 weeks earlier in April 1960. The Paper is in fantastic condition given that it is over 60 years old; it has obvious light discolouration of paper as to be expected with newsprint but has no significant bends/creases to paper. The serialisation contained a superb colour illustration by Oliver Brabbins of a blonde in a yellow dress wearing a pearl necklace looking down on another woman who appears to have been shot or injured to the head next door to an prostrate man presumably also shot: "Judy's world was so safe. until the strangers called with half a million dollars - and two ugly blazing guns.". Rare. I have been collecting Fleming and Bondiana and have never encountered this newspaper before. One for the Fleming completist. Photographs/scans available upon request. unknown

19653554907192091965. London: The Sunday Times Magazine August 15 1965. The article was one of the last things that Fleming wrote the introduction to a book about Jamaica. Superb article its first publication in the Sunday Times Colour section with great colour photographs by Richard Steedman evoking the Jamaica that Fleming knew. A VG copy. These poorly produced magazines were clearly not meant to be kept for posterity and this one has lasted the test of time remarkably well. A great magazine and quite uncommon these days.
