2013120370London: Bentley 007 / Vintage Books. 2013. First Edition Thus; First Printing. Hardcover. As New in No Dust Jacket dust jacket. MINT Copy. The 60th ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION of the publication of the original Casino Royale in 1953 of 500 copies only produced by Bentley Motors. UNUSED - still in it's original packaging as originally sent. Also with the original paper label stating "This copy has Number GG1" on the paper sleeve/packing. This apparently stands for "Goodwill Gift 1". The very FIRST copy put aside for a Special customer. However to check I opened the package very very carefully and the metal limitation marque with Ian Fleming's impressed signature which reflects the plate you would find on a Bentley engine says '441'. I then replaced everything as found As New with the paper sleeve fastened by the GG1 limitation label within a supporting foam frame and paper packaging set in it's own cardboard box printed with stitching motif. So I can only assume this copy was gifted to someone of importance - but I have no idea to whom The book itself is housed in a black deluxe leather clamshell box measuring c. 13.5" x 11". The case and cover are bound in the same BELUGA LEATHER used by Bentley for their luxury interiors. It features the iconic double stitching and signature winged Bentley logo. The trademark knurling adorns the book's metal spine inspired by the cars' famous steel tread plate. Removing the book from the tray reveals a hidden compartment containing two packs of bespoke Bentley branded playing cards housed in a single leather case. The striking red/black colouring is a nod to the gambling plot of the novel where Bond attempts to bankrupt Le Chiffre the paymaster for the Russian secret service. The Bentley is James Bond's car of choice in the original novels and Ian Fleming was a great admirer of the 'Bentley Boys' seduced by their adventures on the racing track in particular their victories at Le Mans from 1927-30. Fleming was a close friend of engineer Amherst Villiers who designed the famous supercharger for the 'Blower' Bentley. This iconic edition captures both the Bentley brand and the 'intrigue' of the James Bond Books. The book itself features the iconic double silver stitching and signature winged Bentley logo. It also has a silk ribbon marker bound in and has brush style illustrations by award-winning artist Damian Gascoigne. Original price was £750.00. Images shown of the packaging are of this copy - other images are stock photos as I wasn't going to disturb the box any further - only did so to check the 'number plate' and to check the book was actually inside!
