Old leather boards binding; needs rebacking. The pastoral romance Daphnis and Chloe is attributed to Longus, a third century A.D. Greek poet. Idyllic in nature, the poem tells the charming story of the love of a goat herd and a shepherdess. Daphnis and Chloe was widely popular in France and England in the 17th and 18th century. This text was translated from the Greek by Jacques Amyot (1513-1593). The engraved illustrations are by an anonymous pupil of Bernard Picart (1673-1733) one of the greatest French artist / engravers of the era. FR-VOYAGE 3RD FL
