The building looks immense despite the large crowds of people in the foreground. The Crystal Palace was erected in Hyde Park and housed the Great Exhibition of 1851 considered the first worldwide exhibition. The building housed 14000 exhibitors in 990k square feet. Page measures 11" x 15 7/8"<br/> <br/> This print published by the London Illustrated News on November 24 1855 features a birds eye view of Manhattan and Brooklyn from the approximate location of Liberty Island. The view is highly detailed showing the Battery Governor's island piers along the Hudson and East Rivers and Broadway. Major buildings are identifiable including Castle Garden Trinity Church and Brooklyn Borough Hall. A variety of ships are seen in the harbor. In very good condition with some tape residue in the margins. <br> <br> The Illustrated London News 1842-1971 was the first illustrated news magazine. It reported on British and world events including news of war art science disaster etc. Although the publication ceased in 2003 the company exists today as Illustrated London News Ltd. a publishing content and digital agency.<br/> <br/> London Illustrated News unknown

Horizontal dampstain. <br/><br/>The Canadian Illustrated News was the first magazine in the world to produce photographs at a consistently successful rate. Published by George Desbarats in Montreal from 1869 to 1883 the journal published photos of people and scenes still well-known to Canadians today. 18295523<p><strong>Including a mystification attributed to Benjamin Franklin</strong></p><p>This collected edition of stories includes Russian translations of <strong>Washington Irving</strong>'s novella '<em>The Haunted House</em>' from his book '<em>Bracebridge Hall</em>' Libman #2709 and an essay titled '<em>Journey to Ermenonville</em>' attributed to <strong>Benjamin Franklin</strong>. However the latter is most likely a mystification — a pseudonymous work falsely attributed to Franklin. It is possible that a Russian author used Franklin's name to lend the piece greater authority or intrigue.<br />This conclusion is supported by the content of the essay which describes a visit to the tomb of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. While it is historically accurate that Franklin served as the United States Minister to France from 1776 to 1785 and could have visited Rousseau's tomb Rousseau died in 1778 the text reveals that the travelers were informed during their visit that Rousseau's body was no longer there. In fact Rousseau's remains were transferred to the Panthéon on October 11 1794 — four years after Franklin's death in 1790. This chronological inconsistency strongly suggests that the essay could not have been written by Franklin himself.<br />'<em>Povesti i Literaturnye Otryvki</em>' was published by Nikolai Polevoi a renowned Russian editor writer translator and historian in six parts.
