Levinas individua l’origine della significazione etica nel sentire del soggetto, che avverte una responsabilità alla quale non può sottrarsi: la prossimità dell’altro ridesta infatti il trauma che ha colpito il soggetto nella «diacronia», in un tempo non recuperabile dalla coscienza.
