Original printed wrappers in deep maroon with stylized prehistoric motifs in red and tan backed in brown cloth. xiv 279 pages profusely illustrated with site plans charts and black-and-white photographic plates; folding radiocarbon chronology chart present and in excellent order. The front cover remains vivid with only faint surface wear; spine lightly rubbed at extremities but intact and unsplit. Interior clean with mild toning and a few small foxing marks at title page. Rear wrapper gently age-toned. A well-preserved and complete copy far better than commonly found given the fragility of the binding and the limited institutional distribution.<br /> <br /> This second volume in the Adena People series continues Webb and Baby’s important study of the prehistoric Adena culture—mound builders who lived in the Ohio Valley between about 1000 and 200 BCE. Drawing on extensive excavations and early radiocarbon dating the authors document burial mounds artifacts and ceremonial sites that shaped later Woodland cultures. The work remains a key reference in American archaeology and an essential record of sites that have since changed or disappeared.<br /> <br /> .
