Green illustrated publisher's cloth binding with applied oval image of "Snow Baby" Marie Ahnighito Peary child of Josephine Diebitsch and Robert Peary. Cloth lightly rubbed at spine but very clean. Endpapers have darkened offsetting from laid in newsclippings and what was likely once a protective jacket no longer present. Previous owner's ink gift inscription to ffep. Binding gently cracked but holding. Black and white photo illustrations throughout. A story of Arctic exploration and life among the Eskimos written for children and centered around the adventures of Peary's 6 year old daughter Marie "Ahnighito." At rear laid in and pasted on are three news clippings spanning decades and relating to the Peary family: "Peary's Daughter Marries Mariner" "To Unveil Peary Memorial" dated in ink 1922 and "Peary's Grandson Killed" dated in ink 1946. Peary's daughter born in Greenland during one of his Arctic expeditions the narrative for children describes life with the Eskimo Inuit delightfully showing the culture and daily life. <br /> <br /> Published five years after the story of her birth in The Snow Baby wow a great big girl of nine years the Snow Baby is able herself to tell the story of her further Arctic experiences and her acquaintance with the little fur-clad children of the ice. <br /> <br /> She has seen the icebergs and the great ice-fields the glaciers the polar bears the walrus the deer the musk-oxen and the birds; but this time she has seen them with eyes that could understand a little. What her life experiences seemed like to her will be told largely in her own way with an occasional word of help or explanation from her mother. <br /> <br /> The illustrations are from photographs taken by Commander and Mrs. Peary and are of the greatest variety but give especial attention to the children.
