1925001989New York: The Macmillan Company 1925. Spine ends lightly frayed. Tiny damp stain to lower page corners in the margin only - text is not affected else Very Good condition. Square tight copy. Illustrated with 200 action photographs. This copy has the bookplate of New York psychiatrist Dr. Dudley D. Schoenfeld a pioneer in the field of criminal profiling who was instrumental in solving The Crime of the Century. Just after Charles Lindbergh's baby was kidnapped and well before the arrest of Bruno Richard Hauptmann Dr. Schoenfeld was asked by the authorities to examine the ransom notes and other evidence. Dr. Schoenfeld was able to "construct" a profile of the person who committed the crime. While compilation of a psychological profile is common practice in criminal investigations today in 1932 it was ground-breaking. Dr. Schoenfeld conclusions that the ransom notes were likely written by a German man with a criminal past and that he was probably mechanically adept proved to be surprisingly accurate. .
