L'ouvrage paru en 1915 en anglais pour le compte du ministère des Mines ne sera jamais réédité. Publié aujourd'hui en français pour la première fois il constitue un outil de recherche précieux pour l'anthropologie et l'histoire. Il souligne également les liens anciens et profonds autres que de mépris de violence et d'exploitation tissés entre les peuples amérindiens et les descendants des premiers colons européens liens de connaissance réciproque qu'il est plus que jamais impérieux de faire renaître.».
