Se plantea asimismo que en la zona istmeña convivieron dos grupos de sólida identidad: los zoques que aún hoy conservan sus tradiciones y los olmecas de los que no se sabe quiénes fueron ni qué lengua hablaron aunque hay elementos para suponer que ambos grupos estuvieron estrechamente ligados e incluso se han hecho conjeturas de que los zoques son descendientes de los olmecas. Esta obra comparte lo que se sabe de ellos e invita a disfrutar de la belleza de sus obras de arte por medio de las numerosas fotografías que incluye.
