19647882Staten Island NY: The Herald of Freedom 1964. First Edition. Original wraps. Very Good. 7 X 9 3/8 Inches. 70 PP. Uncommon original issue of the infamous booklet that first suggested that Marilyn Monroe was having a relationship with Bobby Kennedy and that Kennedy was responsible for her death. After Monroe's untimely death in 1962 this accusation seemed a bit wild as there was no proof that Monroe and Bobby Kennedy were involved with each other. This all changed in 2016 when a letter from Bobby's younger sister Jean Kennedy Smith was located and sold at auction:<br /> <br /> "Understand that you and Bobby are the new item" and "We all think you should come with him when he comes back East!"<br /> <br /> After the publicaton of this book it is now known that Bobby Kennedy the Attorney General had Capell's phone tapped. Capell was widely known as a conspiracy theorist and anticommunist activist. With the benefit of hindsight his case in the matter seems a bit sensational but remains compelling nonetheless. <br /> <br /> Original covers intact but loose. Front cover now mostly hidden by an original photograph of an unknown male dressed as Marilyn Monroe. A few additional pasted photos. Some light soiling throughout. An interesting piece of 20th Century conspiracy literature. The Herald of Freedom unknown

First photoplay edition based on this Art Deco inspired for Dirigible -- Frank Capra’s epic aviation disaster film for Columbia pictures. Based on the crash of the airship Italia flown by Umberto Nobile in May 1928 near the North Pole and the subsequent rescue which cost Roald Amundson his life Capra intended to emulate the success of Wings. This fascinating film was shot in a semi-documentary style providing splendid footage of the USS Los Angeles mid-air docking/recovery of a fighter aircraft and the crash of an airship during a storm just a few years before the Hindenburg disaster. The movie starred Jack Holt Ralph Graves and Fay Wray two years before her huge success in King Kong. Inspired by his fascination with Indian artifacts Beckwith also undertook the study of the petroglyphs in the area around Delta Utah and became an authority on petroglyphs in Utah. He and Charles Kelly traveled all over the state photographing and attempting to interpret the engravings. With the help of Joseph J. Pickyavit a Native American who resided in Kanosh and who was known locally as “Indian Joe” Beckwith attempted to deduce what certain petroglyphs depicted. In this work Beckwith focuses on the family and culture of Joe Pickyavit and his people. At first he produced six copies of the original manuscript himself setting the type on an old Linotype and providing his own illustrations and photographs. The book has been called 'a grandiose task and a great tribute to his friend Indian Joe and the other Paiutes…The appeal of the book is the personal account of one man's reaction to the friendship of another. Pickyavit known locally as Indian Joe Beckwith traveled around the region and attempted to interpret the many petroglyphs he found.
