Bancker Esq. from his Humble Servant J K Kane" and later library stamp to wrapper internally clean. $50. Report on spoliation claims from the Quasi-War with France 1798-1800. The recipient of this copy was likely Charles Bancker c.1776-1869 a colleage of Kane's in the American Philosophical Society. Kane appears to have misremembered Bancker's middle name Nicholl. Kane an attorney and federal judge was also a close ally of President Andrew Jackson and an influential political strategist. OCLC locates 23 copies none in law libraries. unknown

Cuming of Philadelphia merchant mortgaged a three-story brick house at 1736 Grove St. Philadelphia for $900 to be paid within three years. Signed by John K. Cuming witnesses Harry B. Yerger and Frank A. Brunner notary public Harry B. Yerger with his stamp and Philadelphia County Recorders of Deeds John O'Connell and John Virdin. The note of satisfaction on 16 Oct. 1901 was signed by Kate E. Scott. John K. Cuming 1830-1915 was a prominent Philadelphian who served on the Select Council the Citizens' Municipal Association and the Board of City Trusts and was president of the Tenth National Bank for many years. Townsend embarked from Vancouver aboard the Columbia for his trip to the Sandwich Islands and Chile an account of which occupies some forty pages. The appendices include tables and descriptions of birds and mammals of Oregon. Townsend also collected important botanical specimens as did Nuttall. unknown
