Fine Turkish Contemporary blues cloth bdg. Set in four volumes. Roy. 8vo. )24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 47 issues complete set. Rare complete set of the legendary literary magazine, whose publication life was interrupted periodically due to financial problems of Cemal Süreya, one of the most important names of the poetry movement called "Ikinci Yeni" [i.e. The Second New]. Every issue is a special issue that has a large part of a poet and author. The publication survived between June 1966 and June 1970, and a total of 47 issues were published during this period. Unlike the first period, the magazine became one of the most important literary magazines of those years. Sureya sold the car she brought from Paris for the magazine. Due to financial difficulties and March 12, its broadcast life has come to an end. In 1980 the magazine was reprinted quarterly. During this period, only two issues were published and no more were published due to the September 12 Coup d'Etat. Süreya stated that he named the magazine "Papyrus" in his letter dated 22 December 1959 to one of his friends, Nedret Gürcan, because "the ancient Egyptians wrote their first writings on the leaves of the grass called papyrus growing on the banks of the Nile." Very Good Turkish Original artwork in watercolor, Indian ink, and dry paint. 11,5x9,5 cm. This rare original artwork of Mary and Jesus comes along an exceptional provenance of Turkish cartoonist Semih Balcioglu (1928-2006), with his handwritten note on verso "Cemal Nadir'in bir kompozisyonudur" [i.e. It's composed by Cemal Nadir]. Signed on right lower as "C. N". Unpublished work. Cemal Nadir was a Turkish cartoonist. He was born in Bursa, Ottoman Empire on 13 July 1902. His father Sevket was a calligrapher (Turkish: Hattat) employed in courts. After finishing high school, he began working as a sign painter in Bursa. He also created cartoons, and his first cartoon appeared in Diken (literally: "The Thorn") periodical. Although he moved to Istanbul and tried to be a full-time cartoonist, he could not make it and he returned to Bursa. The Alphabet reform of 1929 gave Cemal Nadir a second chance to show his talent. When Turkey adopted the Latin alphabet replacing the Ottoman Turkish alphabet in Arabic script, all sign boards were necessarily changed, and he worked hard to meet the demand. The same year, he moved once more to Istanbul to work for the daily Aksam. Later, he also drew for the newspaper Son Posta, as well as for satirical magazines such as Akbaba. He also contributed to Yedigün. During this period, he published the satirical magazine Amcabey. During World War II, he drew anti-Nazism cartoons in the daily Cumhuriyet. In 1946, Republican People's Party (CHP) invited him to run for a seat in the parliament. However, he refused the invitation, he said that with political affiliation he would not be able to create cartoons.

In 1973, she was given a scholarship by the Austrian Government to study at the Salzburg Internationale Sommer Academie für Bildende Kunst. In 1977, she began teaching at Marmara University. She completed her doctoral degree with proficiency arts at Marmara University in 1985. Onat became an Associate Professor in 1990. Between 1967 and 1993, she researched painting and arts in museums and galleries in Europe. In 1987, Onat established Derimod Culture Centre with Hasan Yelmen and realized retrospective exhibitions. She has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. As of today, Onat continues to teach at Marmara University.

FIRST AND ONLY EDITION OF THIS IMPORTANT PRIMARY SOURCE ON DAVID'S LIFE AND WORK, published the year before he died. 84 pp., including 4-page publisher's catalogue. Printed on good laid paper. Although this book was published anonymously, David himself is obviously the main author, at least by dictation. He describes his life and work, discussing dozens of paintings in great detail: these are among his only recorded commentaries on his own oeuvre. Charming lithographed frontispiece portrait of David in middle age, looking rather dashing with his Legion of Honor medal. 8vo. Bound in later quarter cloth and marbled boards, original pink printed wrappers preserved. Light wear to corners of binding, small restoration to wrappers, some internal spotting, but still clean, in very good overall condition. Always a very scarce and important book (every institutional copy I have located, aside from the BL copy, is either missing the portrait or is simply a photocopy of the original), and copies such as this one--complete with the publisher's catalogue, the frontispiece portrait, and the original wraps--are of the greatest rarity.
