Federico Zandomeneghi (1841 1917) was an Italian Impressionist painter In 1874, he went to Paris, where he was to spend the rest of his life. He quickly made the acquaintance of the Impressionists, who had just had their first group exhibition. Zandomeneghi, whose style of painting was similar to theirs, would participate in four of their later exhibitions, in 1879, 1880, 1881, and 1886. Like his close friend Edgar Degas he was primarily a figure painter, although Zandomeneghi's work was more sentimental in character than Degas Includes many plates in color and black an white of Zandomeneghi still lifes and portraits. OCLC lists 7 copies worldwide. This copy is inscribed by Edmondo Sacerdoti of the Sacerdoti Gallery in Milan on the front end page. Both book and jacket are in very good condition. (ITART-1-18)

Ossip Zadkine (1890 1967) was a Russian-born artist who lived in France. He is primarily known as a sculptor, but also produced paintings and lithographs. He was born to a Jewish father and a mother of Scottish origin His best-known work is probably the sculpture The Destroyed City (1951-1953) , representing a man without a heart, a memorial to the destruction of the center of the Dutch city of Rotterdam in 1940 by the German Luftwaffe. (Wikipedia, 2016) This copy is warmly inscribed by Zadkine in 1965 to the notable Judaica Collector Michael M. Zagayski and his wife. Zagayski began collecting as a youth in Poland and had accumulated an impressive number of valuable items which were looted by the invading Nazis, in 1939, when he was attending a Jewish Agency meeting in Geneva. Only a year later he began a new collection Mr. Zagayski came to the United States during World War II to serve as a vice-consul of the Polish Government in Exile. (Jewish Telegraphic Agency) Two items laid in. First, a 1955 catalog from Mr. Zagayskis sale of a 1150 AD eition of Josephus The Jewish War and Volume II of the fist Hebrew Bible printed in Spain. Second, an additional set of photographs of Zadkines sculptures printed in 1958. SUBJECT(S) : Sculpteurs -- France -- Biographies. Zadkine, Ossip.
