Per Messner's practice of indicating first editions during this period no additional printings stated on copyright page. Includes scarce dust jacket with $2.50 price to top of front flap eight publisher's titles to back panel with this title listed first and front panel and frontis portraits by prominent illustrator Louise Altson. In text illustrations by author. Cateau deLeeuw was best known for her "career romances" published in the 1940's and 1950's and Betty Loring proved to be her most popular a story of a woman's efforts to establish herself in the competitive trade of commercial art - and of course ending in romance. Historically Betty Loring received serious critical attention for its groundbreaking emphasis and practical advice on young adult adjustment issues when entering the workplace. Note that the last two images in this description show respectively an October 26 1948 Courier News Bridgewater NJ review clipping and the dust jacket cover of her later co-authored publication The Strange Garden. 205 pp. 8 1/4" x 5 1/4". Tight immaculate copy with minimal wrinkling to head and tail of spine panel. Extremities otherwise crisp with vivid cloth binding color and black lettering. Small "PLANNING DEPARTMENT" stamp to front and back blank endpapers. Otherwise Unmarked front to back. Dust jacket with minimal shelf wear and small chip to top left of front panel. An unusually presentable and scarce copy with an especially scarce priced dust jacket of a title often found if at all in poor condition. Random worming does not affect text and is very slight as is very light dampstaining towards the lower edges of the index sheets. Red stained edges as expected. Rear cover professionally re-attached. Full vellum. Title-page with Arabesque borders blank verso 14 pp preliminaries pp. 1-1152 followed by Index of 38 sheets 76 pp followed by sheet with only an Arabesque design on the verso. In Latin. This edition has 198 or 199 depending text woodcuts by Bernard Salomon of very decent quality. FIRST de TOURNES LATIN BIBLE based on Robert Estienne's text illustrated with an arabesque title-border and numerous woodcuts.by Bernard Salomon whose nickname was "Le petit Bernard" or "Little Bernard" antecedently and laterly used in other books.
