193085443Seoul 1930. Near Fine. All are normal sized 9 x 14cm. Mostly consists of postcards from Japanese or Korean makers of Commercial postcards. One batch of 11 is in an envelope titled in English "Many Kinds of Picture Cards & Korean Products Just Fit for Present or Souvenir" and sold by Umiichi & Co. in Keijo Seoul. Another batch are in an envelope with a man wearing spectacles and a small-crowned top hat. leaning over the text. The envelopes may initially have contained more. The rest of the cards are loose. Cards captioned in varying combinations of English Korean and Japanese. Several of the loose cards seem to emphasize the quaint backwardness of Koreans; one features a semi-nude woman with the English caption of "To Chang sic Ones Clothes." <br/><br/> hardcover books

218559Japan. Twenty one postcards 5 in colour the rest black and white photographic images. Some occasional spotting and browning light wear edges and one creased in places. Presented in a slightly chipped black lacquer box. Overall the collection is in fair to good condition. An interesting miscellaneous collection of twenty one Japanese postcards in a black lacquer box mostly dating from the 1910s and 1920s. Fourteen of these show scenes from a large Japanese military training exercise held in November 1919. Each card has a commemorative stamp of the Army Training Exercise and its date November 1919. There is also a card featuring a painting of the OSK line ship "Amerika Maru" and another with a picturesque Japanese scene and an inset photo of the OSK ship "Konan Maru" possibly a souvenir card given to passengers on the ship. Two other cards are New Year's greeting cards one of them dated 1939 and rather curiously written in Russian although it appears to have been sent from one Japanese man to another. Perhaps the most interesting in the collection is a postcard from Crown Prince Hirohito's 1921 visit to England which shows the Crown Prince shaking hands with one of Lloyd George's grandchildren although the scene is completely stolen by another small grand-daughter who stands in the middle of the photograph completely ignoring the presence of the Crown Prince. The collection also includes a 1948 entry permit to a market run by the Osaka Fruit and Vegetable Association. . unknown

Per Dobke Books Multiples page 201 there were 1000 postcard sets printed each 120 loose cards 10.5 x 14.8 cm with wrapper. The cards are all in fine condition. The obi is present with this set but has been neatly severed in one place. Despite the seemingly large edition these sets rarely come to market these days especially in complete form. Booklet of 9 only captioned sepia postcard views lacks 3 postcards 15.3 x 6.1cm each perforated at margin final card with tissue guard versos divided in two printed in green with the studio reference numbers at top right otherwise blank; original stiff attractive grey card covers title printed in black within a foliated triple-ruled border cover soiled and marked. A very interesting suite of views. An appealing suite of twelve historic views. We have been unable to source the printer or studio but they are likely to be after M.S. Nakajima the influential Japanese photographer who first advertised on the island in 1911.
