1940301596San Francisco: promotional office 1940. Postcard. Very good exemplars enclosed in a small plastic presentation folder provided with twenty clear pockets of 6x4 inches each to contain two back-to-back cards of which three contain one card only and another none at all the rest filled to capacity. There are 13 b&w cards the rest 22 are in color or colorized. Good ones! especially the fancy color items. Spot-checking suggests that this was an active collection not a group purchased en masse as the terminal card is marked discreetly "$1.00" in pencil. Most unused though a couple have greetings/portage/postmarks to verso. promotional office unknown

All 24 cards are in non-adhesive transparent protective sleeves.</p><p><em>The Franco-British Exhibition was a large public fair held in London between 14 May and 31 October 1908. It was the first in the series of the White City Exhibitions. The exhibition attracted 8 million visitors and celebrated the Entente Cordiale signed in 1904 by the United Kingdom and France. The chief architect of the buildings was John Belcher. </em><em>The Exhibition was held in an area of west London near Shepherd's Bush which is now called White City: the area acquired its name from the exhibition buildings which were all painted white. One postcard has the sender's and recipient's addresses on reverse in Japanese and a stamp postmarked 39.11.11 on the reverse These two beautifully printed colour postcards were issued to commemorate Japan exceeding 1 million steam tonnage around 1906. Both cards were post marked on 29 September 1906. The first postcard shows a map of the Pacific and Indian Oceans with main sailing routes indicated in red. An inset chart shows how the tonnage had increased over the past thirty years. The second post card shows a large ship with an inset of its dining room between the two images a colour illustration of a Japanese heavenly maiden carrys colourful banners. . 東京印刷株式会社. 1903201061903. Three color postcards the first showing large crowds along an Adelaide boulevard as Japanese troops march by. Many women and children spectators as well as people leaning from second story windows with Macarey Pharmaceutical Chemist shop clearly visible at number 66 postally unused. The two of Valentine's Series are Japanese warships the "Japanese Battleship "Yashima" and the "Japanese Cruiser "Yoshino". The Yashima card posted with a cancellation stamp from Adelaide 1905; the other unused. Very slt rubbed at edges otherwise very good condition. unknown

Byrne as well as oil company and drilling equipment company owner and manager of MacDonald & Burns Oil Producers to whom they are addressed. First edition thus of this nicely illustrated Seattle street map for the Century 21 Seattle World’s Fair in 1962 from Standard Oil of California. The three postcards from “Ada†describe the trip beginning with “May get out to see the Fair Next Week;†followed by Aug. 26 1962 describing “We expect to go to the Fair tomorrow.†Next postcard she writes that she “certainly have enjoyed my trip here and stay too short.†Very nice juxtaposition on one of the cards with early 1950’s Buick featuring the tooth grille below the futuristic ALWEG monorail cruising past and Space Needle in the distance. While two are typical of the brag map genre the third chides Alaska's new position as the largest state. And the fourth which pictures a B-24 bomber in flight with a map of Texas in the background highlights Texas' contribution to the war effort by way of a new bomber production plant in Fort Worth. A tag shown on the postcard reads "Bound for Tokyo."</p><p>Condition: Four color postcards each measuring 3 ½ x 5 ½." One postally used the other three unused.
