1954222612Australia. Circa1954. An album of 128 black and white photographs and 12 colour postcards detailing a trip to Ceylon in 1954 cord tie. 25 x 33cm. Few postcards loose leaves trifle friable cloth-covered boards little shelf worn overall in good condition. Although the album begins with aerial shots of the P&O Stratheden in Sydney and includes a few non-contemporary studio photographs of Ceylon the majority of the album is comprised of private photographs with handwritten captions and dates. Loosely inserted at the rear is the original photographic film within a Kodak-branded sleeve a 14-page stapled booklet introducing guests to the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo and an itinerary of a motor tour of Ceylon presumably undertaken by the album's creator. . hardcover

Booklet of 9 only captioned sepia postcard views lacks 3 postcards 15.3 x 6.1cm each perforated at margin final card with tissue guard versos divided in two printed in green with the studio reference numbers at top right otherwise blank; original stiff attractive grey card covers title printed in black within a foliated triple-ruled border cover soiled and marked. A very interesting suite of views. An appealing suite of twelve historic views. We have been unable to source the printer or studio but they are likely to be after M.S. Nakajima the influential Japanese photographer who first advertised on the island in 1911. Brief foxing; creasing at one corner; very good.</p> <p>Unrecorded homeopathic medical tract—whose title roughly translates as “Rules of Conduct during a Homeopathic Course of Treatment.â€</p> <p>It was written by Dr. Arthur Lutze 1813–1870 an important homeopathic physician and contemporary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann 1755–1843 the founder of this pseudo-scientific system of alternative medicine that used very particular animal vegetable and mineral preparations to cure various diseases.</p> <p>A year before this tract was published in 1855 Dr. Lutze opened a homeopathic clinic and spa in Köthen Saxony-Anhalt complete with large wards and private rooms spas and other amenities. Present here are 25 dietary and health rules to be followed during a homeopathic treatment.</p> <p>Strictly forbidden foods include coffee tea strong Bavarian beer wine schnaps rum etc. and “everything strong and spicy.†One could eat pork conditionally; beef and mutton were allowed. Many other dietary regulations and advisories follow.</p> <p>No copies in OCLC or KVK.</p> unknown

A small curated collection of 22 real photo post cards RPPCs most of which depict range-riding branding round-up Texas Arizona etc. roping breaking a horse or just being asked to pose for a photograph. One is colorized. Five postcards are canceled with a 1¢ stamp; postmarks from North Dakota Wyoming 20 Iowa and Nevada. Most are dated before or around 1910 with the exception of one more commercial card dated 1937. Seven postcards have some sort of identifying writing on the back - either person-or-place names and nine postcards are blank. <br /> <br /> Some of this fabulous grouping of photos of real working cowhands are just begging to be framed and hung on a wall. unknown
1919227911919. Painting. Very good condition. A group of 12 hand-painted postcards depicting women's fashion in the 1920s. The 5 artist signatures include "Rucio" "Orcina' and "Susie" with 2 undecipherable. All are in the style of the pochoir fashion magazine "Le Gazette du Bon Ton". On the verso is the standard postcard information for France "Carte Postale. La Correspondance au recto n'est pas acceptee par tous les pays etrangers Se renseigner a la poste" with a split back the address on the right and room for correspondence on the left. Two cards by "Susie" are charming - one woman is dressed in a blue sailor's suit the duffle bag slung over her shoulder with the notation "U.S.A.". In the other the young woman is wearing a short pink and blue striped outfit holding a nest of eggs the suggestive caption saying "Nous aussi nous retrouverons bientot notre cher petit nid!" We will also soon find our own little nest! The outfits are charming. Pencil inscription on some identifying the buyer as 'Mich' an American serviceman perhaps who presented the cards to his lady friend who is as "pretty as" the pictures. The postcards are unused printed on heavy rag card with untrimmed edges. unknown
191529358Trier Germany: Schaar & Dathe 1915. 85 b&w postcards printed by Schaar & Dathe of Trier who were one of the biggest German postcard printers and used During W.W.I the company had 15 presses and employed 150 workers & used letterpress lithograph and collotype processes. Creating postcards during the war was an easy affordable way to spread the news visually about the areas most affected by combat through images of ruins life in the camps and the cleanup efforts of soldiers and civilians. All cards in very good condition presented in a slightly worn and soiled pictorial colour envelope. This collection of post cards features eight young women in Manchuria and a separate real photograph postcard showing a beautiful Korean woman in traditional dress. Most of the Manchurian women wear qipao the accompanying captions introduce them as "attractive companions". Some of the women are portrayed as seductive while others look shy and innocent. . unknown

Good.<br /> <br /> The Massachusetts Medical Society preferred charges against Bushnell Fuller and six other physician members of the Society for "Conduct unbecoming and unworthy an honorable physician and member of this Society" i.e. practicing homeopathy. The Society's Board of Trial conducted the proceedings "at the Society's Rooms." The alleged miscreants purportedly sought to "disorganize and destroy" the Massachusetts Medical Society and to become members of the Massachusetts Homoeopathic Medical Society. A By-Law of the Massachusetts Medical Society prohibited any Member from professing "to cure diseases by Spiritualism Homoeopathy or Thompsonianism."<br /> With defendants protesting what they regarded as a kangaroo-court the trial proceeded. The detailed closing arguments for "the Accused" are printed here as well as summaries of the testimony. Seven Real Photo Postcards all printed on split-back CYKO photo postcard stock and stamp box w/ outline CYKO imprint indicating 1906-1915 dating slight edgewear very slight dustsoiling still NF set of images. This scarce group of Real Photo Postcards chronicle some of the floats and events from the 1914 Floral Parade held on the 8th day of Carnival Feb. 21 1914 with the parade forming at Aala Park in the afternoon. The first shows bustling crowds a cleared street men women and families lined up along the street as the parade passes down the corner from McInerny’s Shoe Store with store front and window displays clearly shown in downtown Honolulu. The next series of cards depict the pyramid of children sitting on the Lincoln-Lee Legion float touting their lifelong temperance pledges to abstain from alcohol a large model wooden ship on the Inter-Island Transportation float another showing Lady Liberty on a Spanish War veterans float; along with a RPPC of the Honolulu Fire Department Engine Co. No. 1’s first motorized fire engine what appears to be a 1910 Knox High Pressure Hose Wagon fitted with ladders on the side cab-over configuration and large Brass lamps in front fitted with ladders and firemen riding in the parade. The RPPC of the Iolani Palace lit up at night with floodlights bringing out the architectural details and revealing all of the windows draped in American flags. n.p., unknown
1950ABC_487261950. Kept in a clear plastic sleeve. Various sizes. Four postcards and one press photograph. Collection of four postcards and one press photograph all relating to hajj. Every image shows a different aspect of the pilgrimage. The photograph shows a group of Moroccan men awaiting their turn to board the plane to Mecca and the postcards show the covered Kaaba both from further away and from up close and the arrival of the holy carpet in Alexandria. The final postcard depicts the public execution of two men.The postcard of the holy carpet has been used and has a black stamp on the front and a message and an address on the back the left margin has been cut slightly affecting the image and the handwritten text the corners of the photographs are somewhat creased.
