Unmarked copy from the collection of Intermedia Systems Corporation co-founder Gerd Stern of the first printing of this nicely produced Steiner volume. An index card showing this copy as having been in the Intermedia library is laid in to front free endpaper now loose with a little shadowing from tape. Tome I : Husayn ibn Mansûr Hallâj, martyr mystique de l’amour inconditionnel de Dieu, éprouvé jusqu’à la damnation volontaire, fut exécuté à Bagdad le 26 mars 922. Sa figure, sa présence accompagnèrent Louis Massignon (1883-1962), l’un des plus grands maîtres de l’orientalisme occidental au XXe siècle, depuis sa découverte du saint en 1907, qui conduisit à la rédaction de sa thèse principale de doctorat, jusqu’à la publication du grand œuvre dans cette édition posthume, considérablement augmentée de tous les compléments et rajouts qui furent le fruit d’une incessante quête.
