Faded reddish cloth adorned with nice gilt illustration on front. Backstrip lettering rubbed but legible. Prior owner's name stamped atop front free endpaper. Half of blank page prior to index missing. (The lists of illustrations and maps suggest neither were attached to this page.) Heavily worn with numerous defects. Lacking fold-out map at back, otherwise a worthy reading copy. Book

Come da Indice, l'opera è ben illustrata da complessive 381 immagini fotografiche in b.n. in tavv. f.t. (di cui 3 ritratti e 1 panorama), da 9 tavv. a colori (di cui 1 panorama) e da 3 carte geografiche a colori, più volte ripieg. "Prima edizione italiana" di questo celebre testo. Cfr. Pagliaini,I, p. 617. Sui frontesp. dei 2 volumi hanno erroneam. scritto: (Sul 1°) “Con 403 incisioni da fotografie e da acquarelli e disegni dell'autore, e con 10 carte” - (Sul 2°) “Con 397 incisioni in nero, due panorami, otto tavole a colori, e dieci carte". Testo ben conservato.
Milano, Treves, 1910, due volumi in-8vo legature originali in tutta tela marrone e copertine illustrate a colori, pp. XII-510-(6) + pp. 474-(6) con due tavole alle antiporte, 381 incisioni, due panorami, otto tavole a colori e tre carte a colori ripiegate fuori testo. I riferimenti alle tavole e alle carte citati nei due frontespizi sono fuorvianti: nel primo volume e' citato: "Con 403 incisioni da fotografie e da acquerelli e disegni dell'autore, e con 10 carte" mentre nel secondo volume: "Con 397 incisioni in nero, due panorami, otto tavole a colori, e 10 carte). Nella realtà sono presenti complessivamente 381 illustrazioni in nero in tavole fuori testo, la numerazione è continua per entrambi i volumi, da 1 a 194 nel primo e da 195 a 378 nel secondo (di cui una è un grande panorama ripiegato) e tre tavole non numerate relative alle due antiporte ed al ritratto di Hedin, nove tavole a colori (tre nel primo volume e sei nel secondo, di cui una è un grande panorama ripiegato), tre grandi carte a colori ripiegate fuori testo (una nel primo e due nel secondo volume). Non sono in alcun modo presenti le dieci tavole citate nel primo volume ed altre dieci citate nel secondo volume ed il numero complessivo delle illustrazioni in nero è quindi di 381 (378 + 3) e non 403 + 397.
Ottime legature editoriali rigide con 2 panorami diversi in litografia entro vignetta al piatto anteriore dei due volumi, ottime condizioni. Volumi completi, 381 immagini fotografiche in b.n. in tavv. f.t. (di cui 3 ritratti e 1 panorama), da 9 tavv. a colori (di cui 1 panorama) e da 3 carte geografiche a colori, più volte ripieg.
