Tagebuch der Else von Ledebur mit Einträgen zur Geburt, Taufe und weiteren Entwicklung der kleinen Tochter Marie Elisabeth. Der Vater, Karl Eberhard Frhr. von Ledebur (1864-1922), wird in seiner Profession als Maler erwähnt: "Papa ist in Bückeburg und malt den Fürsten", ebenso die Großeltern mütterlicherseits, Rudolf und Elisabeth von Kyaw, geb. v. Miltitz. "September 1894. Marie-Elisabeth läuft ganz selbständig. Sehr gerne schüttelt sie ganz energisch das blonde Köpfchen u. sagt 'Nei'(n) wie überhaupt der eigene kleine Wille sehr ausgeprägt ist. Bitterlich weinen, ja sogar mit den Beinchen strampeln kann sie wenn ihr was weggenommen wird oder überhaupt ihr was gegen den Strich geht [...]". - Else von Ledebur wurde lt. Gotha (Freiherrl. Häuser 1916, S. 452) am 20. Februar 1868 in Klein-Zschachwitz bei Dresden geboren, nach frdl. Auskunft der Familie bereits am 20. Februar 1866.

Contemporary sewn red half morocco gilt, flat spine, upper cover titled in gilt and with the photographer's name in gilt. Marbled endpapers. Fine album of 28 black/white mounted photographs showing officials and dignitaries, horse and camel trainers, riders, and races at an unknown celebration or festival during the last days of the Khedivate and Ottoman rule in Egypt. A similar album, comprising merely 24 photographs, is kept at the UC Santa Barbara, Special Research Collections (Bernath Mss 185). - Several mounts loosened or detached. Binding worn at extremeties, some waterstaining to covers.

III) 440 pages - salissures en pages de garde, Sinon très frais intérieurement Membre du parti des Whigs, Lord Stanhope, comme il est appelé avant la disparition du Comte de Chesterfield, son père, en 1726, étudie à l'Université de Cambridge et réalise ce qu'on appelle à l'époque un Grand Tour, voyage de découverte sur le continent. La mort de la reine Anne et l'avènement de George I le font rentrer au pays et lui ouvrent sa carrière politique, assisté par son influent parent, James Stanhope. Lord Chesterfield fut un homme considérable sous les règnes de George Ier (1714-1727) et de George II (1727-1760). À peine majeur, peu après la mort de la reine Anne, le voici membre du Parlement, whig déterminé. Il devient l'ami des grands du monde littéraire, Pope, Swift, Addison, Arbuthnot, et avec eux contribue à donner du prestige à l'essai politique et littéraire qui est une des gloires modestes de l'Angleterre de son époque. À la mort de son père (1726), il lui succède dans le titre, et siège à la Chambre des lords. L'avancement ne lui fut pas difficile. Cultivé, courtois, de bonnes mœurs, excellent orateur (ses discours à la Chambre des lords sont très remarqués), après avoir été ambassadeur à La Haye (1728-1732), il devint ministre dans le cabinet Pelham (1745) (ministère de conciliation, où les whigs laissèrent quelques places aux tories) et il occupa un temps le poste difficile de lord-lieutenant d'Irlande, où il pratiqua une politique d'apaisement. Une fâcheuse aventure sentimentale, son amitié avec Mrs. Howard, la future comtesse de Suffolk, maîtresse du prince de Galles, lui valut plus tard l'hostilité de la reine Caroline, et lord Chesterfield ne put jamais atteindre les sommets de la vie politique. Cependant il fut encore secrétaire d'État dans le ministère Newcastle (1746-1748), et fit, en 1751, adopter le calendrier grégorien, que son pays avait jusqu'alors ignoré. Il mit en quelque sorte l'Angleterre à l'heure de l'Europe. Et puis, comme Candide, en parfait gentleman, il se retira pour cultiver son jardin. Aimable jusqu'à sa dernière heure, on raconte que ses derniers mots furent : « Donnez une chaise à Dayrolles », un ami venu lui rendre visite à son lit de mort. Il eut la carrière exemplaire d'un aristocrate anglais du siècle des Lumières, ami des arts et des lettres, qui se tenait loin des excès et faisait confiance à la raison et au cœur.

Während seiner Zeit als Rhetorikschüler verfasster Monolog des Moses, in dem dieser die Aufgabe, die Israeliten nach Kanaan zu führen, auf seinem Totenbett dem Josua überträgt: "Approche, o mon fils! Vous recevois les derniers paroles et la bénediction de Moïse, au moment du trépas. C'est au nom du Dieu de Jacob que je te parle: prosterne toi devant sa volonté suprême, et sois digne des grands desseins, qu'il a sur toi. Josué, ma mort approche, je le sais: déja nous touchons aux frontières de Canaan, Dieu ne me permet pas de les franchir. Je l'ai entendue, sa voix divine, je l'ai entendue sur le mont Sinaî, il me disait: 'o Moïse tu ne passeras pas le Jourdain! Le voila: ne vois-tu pas le fleure couler à nos pieds? c'est ici qu'est marqueée ma tombe! Que la volonté de Dieux soit accomplie! Small folio (212 x 316 mm). Manuscript on paper. 140 ff. Contemporary half calf with giltstamped spine labels. Marbled endpapers. A very rare manuscript copy of this work which its author had not intended for publication (or could not afford to have printed). Fournel, in his "Bibliographie Saint-Simonienne", placed the total number of such manuscript copies prepared at 60 (erroneously giving a date of 1811). The text was first printed in 1858 in a collection with the "Physiologie religieuse d’Enfantin" (Paris & Leipzig, Masson), and then again in the following year within Volume II of the "Œuvres choisies", with a list of some 30 known recipients of the original "Mémoire". - This work was planned as part of a series of studies based on the work of Vicq d'Azyr, Cabanis, Bichat, and Condorcet, the four scholars who had supposedly done most to study the human mind. The author proposes that his "Mémoire" be copied and criticized before being presented to the learned societies. It is an attempt to develop a positive social science which would study man as a species rather than as an individual; physiology would thus be elevated to the rank of the natural sciences. Saint-Simon believed that society could be understood by examining its underlying natural laws, the resulting social science would supposedly be capable of constructing a perfect society. His arguments for the scientific organization of society have been seen as "the first example of pure socialism [...] understood as an economic system in which production is entirely carried on in common and the fruits of labour distributed according to some ideal standard" (R. T. Ely). - Bookplate of the anthropologist and ethnographer Ernest Théodore Hamy (1842-1908), founder of the Musée d’Ethnographie du Trocadéro. Wohl humoristisch zu verstehender Bericht über eine fiktive Beichte des französischen Kaisers: "Ich beichte und bekenne daß ich seit meinem Kadetstande in Lion das letztemahl bey der beichte war, daß ich als Consul und General in Italien gelogen und betrogen, zu Egipten meine Religion verleignet, in Deutschland als Kayser die Kirchen bestohlen. Den Papst seine Länder beraubt und halte ihn als Geisl, in Östreich habe ich Ehebruch begangen Unschuld verführet und geschändet; in Spanien den König und seinen Söhnen dem Volke beraubt, die Krone mit Gewalt genohmen und geblindert [d. i. geplündert]. In Russland verlohr ich durch des Teufels Verblendung eine Armeé, ergriff die Flucht und wurde dabey ein Mordbrenner [...]". - Auf diesen knapp vierseitigen Text sieben Strophen zu je acht Zeilen umfassende Gedicht "Tänze Napoleons": "Napoleon der große Mann! | So klein er sonst im Ganzen, | Kamm [!] auch die seltne Laun an, | Mit Rußland eine zu danzen [!] [...]". - Am letzten Blatt finden sich einige Notizen von Napoleons Daten. - Etwas angestaubt und fleckig und mit kleinen Randläsuren.

Wohl fiktiver und humoristisch zu verstehender Bericht über den günstigen Absatz französischer Erzeugnisse auf der Leipziger Michaelismesse, die tatsächlich von erheblicher Bedeutung für den Absatz Lyoner Seidenwaren nach Ost- und Südosteuropa war: "Ich berichte Ihnen meine Herren! daß die Leipziger Michaelsmesse für mich sehr günstig ausfiel - indem ich alle Waaren so gut angebracht habe, daß mir davon nichts als die Muster übrig blieben. Die österreichische-Russische-Preußische und Schwedische Kaufleute kamen in solcher Mänge - daß sie sogar die deutschen Waaren für französische na[h]men. Daher bin ich gezwungen meine Herren! Sie zu ersuchen so viel als möglich französische Waaren aufzubringen - und mir aufs schnellste nachzusenden - indem ich Hof[f]nung habe, selbe auf der Franckfurter Messe wieder anzubringen - denn die Kaufleute folgen mir auf dem Fuße nach [...]".

"Fronde Sparte" vol.2; presentazione di Sergio Di Giacomo; Con illustrazioni in bianco/nero e colori.; nuovo; contenuto: il 28 dicembre 1908 uno spaventoso terremoto, della durata di 20 secondi, devasta le località della Calabria e della Sicilia adagiate sullo Stretto di Messina. Pochi minuti dopo, un maremoto sabbatte sui centri abitati di ambedue le sponde dello Stretto, devastandoli. Nel libro si intende descrivere quali furono gli aiuti che mossero da Trieste, Vienna, Budapest e dalle altre località dellimpero danubiano in favore delle popolazioni colpite, in quella tragica circostanza.
