Tur-got Condorcet Saint-Simon and the Saint-Simonians Fourier and Comte form an unbroken chain of intellectual transmission from the Enlightenment through the first half of the nineteenth century. Mr. Manuel has combined psychological portraiture with philosophical and historical analysis.
