His Memoirs are an important historic document of his time. Saint-Simon believed in a utopian system and considered those who had no desire to work parasites. His thought influenced Thorstein Veblen and others. A handsome set of this classic bound by Mansell successors to Hayday in three-quarter red morocco over marbled paper covered boards. With matching endpapers raised bands with compartments lettered and decorated in gilt top edges gilt from the library of Walter Thomas Wallace with his armorial bookplate in each volume. Even before the trial a schism had split the movement. Original dark gray front cover cover wrap bound in some wear and soil but not the rear one; contents very good faint yellow foxing throughout. 411 pp. In 1721 he was appointed ambassador extraordinary to Spain so as to facilitate the marriage of Louis XV and Infanta Mariana Victoria of Spain which however never took place. In Spain he did however secure a grandeesh which later devolved upon his second son and despite having caught smallpox he was quite satisfied with his efforts there: two ducal titles grandees were recognised in France as dukes. This was recently removed from our listings on by the company's moronic Thought Police despite this having nothing offensive about it.
