17965Brock's letters on his letterhead Shaws Yard Kilburn Derbyshire. All from 1969. The pamphlets by Hawkins Printers Kilburn Derby. The collection is in fair condition lightly aged and worn. Two of Brock's three Typed Letters Signed are addressed to theatre bookseller Barry Duncan. In one of them written on 18 March 1969 he writes: 'I have been knocking around for 60 years i think i have played every theatre of note and played with some of the best but i am getting tired with this club stuff you play a diffrent club every night some time you double them in a night un sic packing and packing up. so i am waiting for GALAS one show a day will do me'. The third letter is to 'Jimmy' i.e. 'Jimmy Lynton' the stage name of entertainer Charles Parson 1887-1970 grandfather of prime minister Tony Blair. The five photographs are all black and white and range in size from 18 x 13 cm to 12 x 9 cm. They depict Brock swallowing and spinning knives and balancing a microphone stand on his chin. The two pamphlets are thin 12mo bifoliums almost identical in design the only apparent difference being the fact that on one copy a photograph has been laid down over what on the other is a drawing of Brock doing his act. They are printed in blue red and gold with the cover bearing an acrostic in large letters of Brock's name: 'Breathtaking Remarkable Original Complete Knife-edge EQUILIBRIST Spinning & Juggling Genuine Cavalry Swords and Knives ILLUMINATED CLUBS'. He boasts that his act is 'Booked Re-booked and Recommended' and 'always kept fresh by addition of Clever and Original Material'. Also present are copies of two letters from Barry Duncan to Brock both from March 1969. The four photographs are all in black and white and all around 12.5 x 9 cm. They show Brock swallowing and spinning swords and balancing a microphone stand on his chin. The letter is dated 9 March 1969 and on his red and black letterhead 'New! Novel! Sensational! Juggling Swords Balancing & Spinning Knives Illuminated Clubs'. It concerns the purchase of 'some old pro Photoes sic in JIMMY LYNTONS fit up article'. The pamphlet is a thin 12mo bifolium with a drawing of Brock doing his act. Also included with the engraving is a receipt approx. 8" x 7" for a "Mr. John Wyles." The receipt is written on blue paper printed company letterhead and dated October 17 1862. The receipt was for 1 Presentation Line Sword costing $30.00; 1 Crimson Sash for $15.00; and 1 Bell for $5.00. Along with the engraving and receipt is recent 1981 correspondence related to to the Chicopee Falls Works typed on "Scottish Rite Masonic Museum of Our National Heritage" letterhead. 1965355490723044Privately Printed 1965. First Edition. Signed by Author. First UK Edition. Sable Basilisk: Notes and Correspondence between Robin de la Lanne-Mirrlees and Ian Fleming 1960-1964. Privately produced by the Author Robin de la Lanne-Mirrlees in 1965. Inscribed by the Author on the front free end-paper: "Best Wishes/from/Sable Basilisk/ Robin/ Private & Confidential". Xerox type copies typescript bound in red buckram with gilt lettering to the spine. Sable Basilisk provided light-hearted advice to Ian Fleming during the period that Fleming was researching the heraldic aspects of OHMSS. The book concludes with the results of research into the Bond family history and a drawing of the Bond coat-of-arms with the motto 'The World is Not Enough'. Robin de la Lanne-Mirrlees was Rouge Dragon at the Royal College of Arms from 1952-1962 and went on to become Richmond Herald until his resignation in 1967. In a letter dated 10 May 1974 Robin de la Lanne Mirrlees states that there are only about half a dozen copies of Sable Basilisk in existence. Note: OHMSS is dedicated For Sable Basilisk Pursuivant and Hilary Bray who came to the aid of the party. A fine copy just a hint of fading to the spine hardly worth mentioning in the original buckram with the contents also in fine condition. Campbell 11007C1/11007C2.
