Comprises of a list of the Legion's first organized in 1930 Presidents. Mimeographed leaves comprising a selection of recipes many accompanied with the names of their respective contributors. Sections include: Cakes and Icings Candy Cookies and Dainties Dinner and Supper Dishes Buns and Muffins Pickles and Relishes Salads and Dressings etc. Light rubbing and very faint spotting to the cover some hand-written notations to the recto of some leaves unaffecting legibility of the text otherwise contents remain overwhelmingly bright and unmarked; very good. First edition of this memoir by Bowe 1869-1954 Spanish-American War veteran who served with the French Foreign Legion during World War I. The authors detail not only the history of the French Foreign Legion and methods of joining but also specifically offers names biographical details and more of many different Americans who fought as Legionnaire’s during World War I with focus on the grinding life in the trenches and experiences in battlefront hospitals. Although well known for his lobbying and fundraising efforts for Veterans and their rights his nativist anti-semitic polemics and activities in the 1930’s and 1940’s would severely tarnish his influence. Reprint edition of this critical memoir of an American who fought in the French Foreign Legion in Syria during the 1925 Druze rebellion. Doty 1900-1938 fought in World War I trained with the Legion in Morocco & Algeria and then after the fierce and merciless fighting against the Druze and was decorated. After attempting to escape hard labor and being sentenced to a French prison the U.S. gained him a pardon and he returned to the U.S. He later joined the International Brigade in Spain and was killed in battle during the Spanish Civil War.
