The authors detail not only the history of the French Foreign Legion and methods of joining but also specifically offers names biographical details and more of many different Americans who fought as Legionnaire’s during World War I with focus on the grinding life in the trenches and experiences in battlefront hospitals. Although well known for his lobbying and fundraising efforts for Veterans and their rights his nativist anti-semitic polemics and activities in the 1930’s and 1940’s would severely tarnish his influence.
