Using Percy Shelley's Prometheus Unbound as his inspiration Abbott's epic poem is set after the downfall of the rebel god and centres on his daughter Indra destined to one day rule the world. Rare. No copies of this first edition located on Worldcat. ------ General Sir James Abbott KCB 12 March 1807 - 6 October 1896 was a Bengal Army officer and colonial administrator. The Pakistani city of Abbottabad as well as the district and subdistrict is named after him. The city itself was founded by him in January 1853 and later grew from a small military outpost to a hub of trade. The people of Abbottabad have rejected various proposals to rename the city. A portrait of James Abbott dressed as an Afghan noble and relating to his Central Asian journey was painted in watercolour in 1841 by B. It was attached to Weitzel's Reserve Brigade Department of the Gulf until January 1863. It was attached to Artillery 1st Division XIX Corps Department of the Gulf until January 1864 and the 2nd Division until April 1864. This manual constrains detailed instructions on procedures in firing and handling artillery and training soldiers in its use.</p><p>"In 1810 a Congressional committee looked into ways of improving the training of the militia. One of the results was the publication by the Senate in December 1810 of a small manual entitled <i>Compendious Exercise for the Garrison and Field Ordnance as Practised in the United States</i>. This 30-page pamphlet pp 31-48 comprise amendments to other military regularions contained drills on the new seacoast carriage designed by the Marquis de Montalembert which were just coming into service and the exercise of 4 and 6-pdr. field pieces and additional comments on the use of the prolonge. The anonymous author or compiler seems to have used Tousard or his French originals for garrison and field artillery drill and added excerpts from Jonathan Williams's translation of Montalembert on the new carriage and Kosciuzko for the manoeuvres of a company of field artillery" Donald E. 1843LD60621843. Half gilt-ruled morocco and cloth "Notes on Artillery / R. M. A. / L. Paget / 1843" stamped in gilt on upper board and spine; 8 x 6.25 inches; pp. 6 297 title-page with hand-drawn and colored vignette two finely drawn folding plates a gun and a boring machine for the preparation of gun barrels plus numerous illustrations in text. An exceptionally fine work by Paget presumably a cadet at the time of writing. Penmanship including handwriting drawings diagrams charts is remarkably careful and detailed even lovely and covers casting detonation hand grenades bridges mortars velocity wheels "nature and application of projectiles" and much much more. Paget later served in India and helped suprress the Great Rebellion of 1857. A book on his Indian experiences written with his wife was published in 1865. <br/><br/> hardcover

Elles se composent d'un feuillet double (soit 4pp entièrement ou partiellement rédigées, 4 d'entre elles comptant un double feuillet supplémentaire et 1 avec 2 doubles feuillets supplémentaires. Les marges sont étroites ou absentes, petits interlignes, écriture fine, rapide, dense, bien compréhensible (après une petite adaptation). 4 lettres rédigées en 1861-1862, outre des recherches de capitaux, ont trait à des essais de nouveaux canons inventés par Antoine Treuille de Beaulieu (1809-1886) et leur adaptation à la Marine (essais réalisés à bord de la Junon) et des modifications acceptées pour la "Magenta". 4 lettres datées 1865 annoncent une visite de Dupuy de Lôme à Brest à titre privé, 1 recommandation pour la venue à Brest de Xavier Raymond (1812-1886) Journaliste et Homme de Lettres de la Revue des Deux Mondes et 1 de remerciements pour le bon accueil fait à celui-ci, 1 où il est question du voyage de Napoléon III en Algérie avec son itinéraire au départ de Marseille et d'une rencontre projetée avec le Tsar avant l'embarquement. 2 lettres (1865-1866) évoquent un projet de réunion des escadres française et anglaise à Brest, prodiguent des conseil à l'Amiral de Gueydon pour qu'il obtienne sa nomination de Commandant de l'escadre d'évolution en remplacement de l'Amiral Bouët-Willaumez (ici nommé seulement Bouët), son rival étant l'Amiral de Chabannes, il promet enfin de continuer à soutenir le projet de réaménagement de l'Arsenal de Brest même lorsqu'il n'y sera plus Préfet. En effet, les 13 lettres écrites en 1864-1865 nous éclairent sur les efforts nécessaires et les difficultés rencontrées pour l'aboutissement de ce projet de grande envergure initié par l'Amiral de Gueydon: obtenir l'adhéson des nombreuses commissions et de ministres (finances, travaux publics, guerre, marine), ainsi que le soutien continu de Napoléon III; négocier au plus juste avec les entrepreneurs dont un M. Maublanc dont le nom revient souvent; convaincre le Conseil Municipal de Brest et autres notables de l'intérêt de céder des terrains au détriment du port de commerce; échanges au sujet des nombreuses modifications nécessaires à apporter aux plans initiaux concernant ici saloirs, radiers, balardeaux, profondeur des bassins, installation de l'avant-port ou petite rade, aménagement des quais Jean Bart et de Tourville. Le tout ponctué de mises au point et justifications de Dupuy de Lôme car les courriers officiels et privés se croisent, arrivent en retard, sont oubliés parfois sur le bureau d'un Ministre absorbé par d'autres tâches. This work was also reissued by the Confederate States in 1861 and 1862. The illustrations were engraved by D. McClelland after sketches by Lieutenant R.H. Rush of the 2nd Artillery Battalion. Neat ink manuscript listing after the prefatory sentence quoted in our title 57 names in the first column and names 58-64 in the second column. Similar flourishes in the names suggest that at least many were written in an identical hand. The two columns are separated by a rule in manuscript. Old folds Very Good.<br/><br/> Allen Sherrod Cutts listed as Captain heads this list of 64 volunteers. Cutts raised this Battery of Artillery at the outbreak of the War. The Battery arrived in Virginia after the First Battle of Bull Run and saw action at the Battle of Dranesville. In 1862 Cutts expanded the Battery to a Battalion the 11th Georgia Artillery Battalion as its commander. <br/> Cutts was promoted to Major Lieutenant Colonel both in 1862 and colonel April 1864. The Battalion served in the Artillery Reserve of the Army of Northern Virginia under General Pendleton in the Seven Days Battles; and it fought at Antietam Fredericksburg Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. After the War Cutts entered politics as a Democrat was mayor of Americus-- the County Seat of Sumter County-- and a member of the Georgia General Assembly.<br/>Speicher THE SUMTER FLYING ARTILLERY 2009. Thomas bland Strange aka "gunner jingo" was a British solider who during the North-West Rebellion in in 1885 was noted in his service in the Canadian militia. During this time he was a retired major-general and lived near Modern Day Calgary.
