Abb. «Dossier de Presse» 14 Bl. u. 10 S. u. a. der Produzenten Georg Fischer m. 2 Orig.-Fotogr. und Jean Gallay. - Texte frz. - «Während der Entwicklung des Leopard 2 in Deutschland untersuchte die Schweizer Armee die Möglichkeiten ihre veralteten Panzer 68/88-Bestände abzulösen. Es bestanden die Optionen der Neuentwicklung des Nachbaus oder des Ankaufs eines ausländischen Serienfahrzeuges. Unter der Führung der Firma Contraves jetzt Rheinmetall Defence untersuchte die Schweizer Rüstungsindustrie die Möglichkeit eines Neuen Kampfpanzers NKPZ. Das Projekt wurde am 3. Dezember 1979 eingestellt. Die Risiken dieser Neuentwicklung und die damit verbundenen Kosten wurden als zu hoch eingestuft. Daraufhin wurden je zwei Fahrzeuge der Typen M1 und Leopard 2 angemietet und erprobt. Am 9. März 1981 wurden die Leopard 2 aus den Beständen der Bundeswehr mit leichten Änderungen übergeben. So erhielten die Fahrzeuge eine 71-mm-Vorfeldbeleuchtungsanlage vom Typ Lyran sowie eine VRC-Funkanlage mit Sende- und Empfangsantennen vom Typ HX 101 A1. Nach umfangreichen Vergleichserprobungen – die von August 1981 bis Juni 1982 dauerten – wurde beschlossen den Leopard 2 zu kaufen. Gründe waren unter anderem dessen frühere Serienreife und die direkte Beteiligung der Schweizer Industrie und damit eine kostengünstigere Beschaffung als beim M1. Im Mai 1983 legte die Firma Contraves ein Angebot für den Lizenzbau vor das am 11. Dezember 1984 vom Schweizer Nationalrat gebilligt wurde. Die Gesamtstückzahl belief sich auf 380 Leopard 2 von denen 35 direkt bei Krauss-Maffei produziert werden sollten. During the battle the 3rd Panzer was used to achieve the initial breakthrough and inflicted heavy damage to the Soviet forces. It was then used to protect the flanks of the 48th Panzer Corps. After the Soviet counter-attack at Kursk in which the 3rd Panzer division tried unsuccessfully to defend Kharkov it retreated as the Germans were driven back westward.
