Immense work of research and presentation of probably the most important battle of the European land war, with the destruction of the 6th army and the end of the "unbeatable" myth that surrounded the German forces. Excellent book in every way - just how historical writing should be done. A deserved bestseller. Good second-hand copy, with some very small rounding of one of the edges and minor creasing of the spine from use ( almost inevitable from the size and weight of the book ). The binding is solid and all pages are there. Size : 15 cms wide - 4 cm thick - 23 cms length Weight 720 grams 490 pages including pictures and artwork

G/Fair (clipped dj chipped and worn round edges and large damp stain back cover, clean grey cloth with blue titles on spine and blue illustration of boat on front board, damp stains at hinge of front endpapers, top page edges dusty and brown spotting outside page edges only, internally pages clean and bright with one dog-eared corner) octavo 221pp. Second impression. The incredible voyage of two British soldiers who set out to sail from Sumatra to Australia in a small open boat in their attempt to escape from the Japanese in Singapore. They were at sea for 127 days.
Good+ better than a reading copy though! no dj dark boards have rounding to corners and both ends of spine, but no significant loss. front board has whitened areas ( old splashes? ) but not unsightly. gilting to spine has dulled considerably - hard to read. internally the ffeps have significant area of browning ( old bookmark?), but no inscriptions.. ditto the rear endpapers. the title page notably foxed, as are the textblock edges. there are the odd tarnish spots in the text, but nothing unsightly. all inconsistent with age. a rare title. details the exploits of the french submarine Casabianca, commanded by the author, from the time of her escape from. Toulon in April 1942 to the liberation of Corsica in Sept 1943. with photographs and maps.
