This address gives particular attention to the radical aspects of non-violent action in Montgomery. An anarchist activist and pacifist Joffre was also involved in the Beat movement of the 1950s published a volume of poetry and is mentioned by name in Allen Ginsberg's HOWL "with big pacifist eyes sexy in their dark skin passing out incomprehensible leaflets".
