Becke's account was first published as two volumes in 1914 and rapidly established itself as one of the most important twentieth century studies. A revised and expanded edition was issued as a single volume in 1936 (here reprinted), firstly to incorporate much new matter and secondly to assist readers and scholar in following more easily the campaign in its entirety. Nothing essential was sacrificed in the compression; six new sketch maps replaced many previous pages of print, and nearly all footnotes were eliminated by including their information directly in the text. Includes a bibliography. Scarce in anything like this condition. Sandler 274 (recording the first edition).

With the nineteenth century engraved armorial bookplate of John W Trist FSA FSI, and the binder's ticket of Cunningham & Son of Ashton under Lyne, on front paste-down. The same owner has augmented this copy by mounting numerous relevant cuttings on endpapers and preliminaries at front and rear. A later issue of the first Bentley Standard Novels edition of 1833 (engraved title so dated) but with no sign of the usual BSN titling. The frontispiece is by Greatbatch after Pickering. Sandler (2305) records a still later edition.

Raro numero del 5 luglio 1815 della rivista Il Cracas diario di Roma rivista dedicata alla cronaca ed avvenimenti di Roma. La rivista fino al 1894 pubblicò in breve o per esteso gli avvenimenti religiosi, politici e militari della città e le notizie che ad essa pervenivano dall'Italia o dall'estero, diventando una ricchissima ed importante fonte di notizie. La rivista è contenuta all'interno di una custodia cartonata con un appunto del vecchio proprietario "Rarità. Diario di Roma del 5 luglio 1815 in cui viene annunciata la sconfitta napoleonica a Waterloo". Numero di interesse storico. Oltre a questa notizia di rilievo anche le battaglie della Francia in Valle D'Aosta. In buone condizioni. Copertina morbida coeva in discrete condizioni generali con usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in buone condizioni ma corpo del libro in parte staccato. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con fioriture. In 24.13,5x6,5 cm. In good conditions. Soft coeval cover in fair conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Binding in good conditions but the body of the book partially detached.
