1914004793Garden City: Doubleday Page & Company 1914. This is the last published work by Stanley Waterloo 1846-1913 a novel of "prehistoric fiction." A previous novel "The Story of Ab" was of the same genre fitting in well with the fascination with eugenics and having great success. Famously it was probably plagiarized by Jack London in his "Before Adam." Waterloo made that claim and London eventually admitted some influence. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition lacking the dustjacket. Green ribbed cloth binding with gilt titling on the spine; gilt decorations on the front cover a design by Will Bradley that suggest hieroglyphic cavemen. Clean text; xii 334 pages. Frontis and three other illustrations by Craig Johns. The gilt on the spine is perhaps a tiny bit dulled; else a Fine copy. An extremely attractive book. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. Illus. by Craig Johns. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Doubleday, Page & Company Hardcover

Future war novel depicting an Anglo-American victory over the rest of Europe in a highly destructive war caused by European imperialism. "An Anglo-American alliance is established to rule the world until the 'lesser breeds' are capable of ruling themselves. This provides one of the most jingoistic statements of Anglo-Saxon supremacy during the period." - Anatomy of Wonder 1981 1-168.
