Ivo Andric, (1892-1975), was a Yugoslav[a] novelist, poet and short story writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1961. His writings dealt mainly with life in his native Bosnia under Ottoman rule. Of his three novels, written during the Second World War, two -Travnicka hronika (1945; Bosnian Story) and Na Drini cuprija (1945; The Bridge on the Drina)- are concerned with the history of Bosnia.
