L'abbé Bechet était le chanoine de l'église cathédrale d'Uzes. Dans cet éloge en alexandrins au maréchal qui vient d'être fait Duc de Villars, il porte ce jugement sur la révolte des Camisards, rebellion d'un « canton malheureux » qui « ne peut soutenir tant de prospérité, peuple pernicieux, ennemi domestique, affectant sous un Roi de vivre en République ».
