First edition 8vo pp. 6 iii-iv 5-54 without the final advertisement leaf; 31 hand-colored folding plates of lines of battle troop movements attacks etc.; contemporary marbled boards neatly rebacked in beige cloth green cloth label lettered in gilt on spine; first gathering loosening else generally a very good sound copy. Ex-Royal United Service Institution with their engraved bookplate and with a small release stamp; no other markings. The text is in 2 parts the second part with continuous pagination and register with the title On Movements and Attacks; with Reference to the Appendix in His Majesty's Regulations for Cavalry" and the plates are divided 12 and 19 respectively. The text is signed at the end: J. G. L. M. A second edition with only 19 plates appeared the following year. The covers are somewhat soiled and worn remaining in very good condition. The one page of text is titled "A Notable Post" and refers to the George H. Thomas--Post No. 5 Grand Army of the Republic Department of Illinois. The final two pages contain an assemblage of portraits of past commanders of Post No. 5 which was organized August 21 1873 largely through the efforts of Col. Hiram Hilliard. 196756895NY: Dodd Mead & Company 1967. First Edition. With a rare signed presentation from one of the French Resistance Fighters mentioned in the book on the front endpaper. In French but a rough translation is "To my little sister illegible name remembering the bad hours of the war spent together. Bacher another illegible name possibly her married name. `Baddah'. page 13.". Possibly to Bacher's own sister Desoline Bacher aka "Buddah" has her involvement in the French Resistance cited on page 13 which she has highlighted by an ink line down the margin. She had also marked her listing in the Index while someone presumably her has also made a spelling correction on page 125. See scans. Bacher worked as a secretary at the French Embassy from 1951 until her retirement in 1983. A native of Corsica she received citations for her efforts in the French Resistance.
