Petite bande à droite découpée avec atteinte au texte. 2- L.S., in-folio, 2 pp., en-tête bois gravé emblématique "Liberté des mers", le Ministre de la Marine et des Colonies au Contre-amiral Linois à Cadix, du 29 vendémiaire an 10 (Decrès est fraichement Ministre), au sujet de l'amarinage (capture) du vaisseau anglais l'Annibal ; un officier anglais, le capitaine Ferris, s'était plaint des officiers français et espagnols. Le Ministre estime que ces plaintes sont "suffisamment détruites par le témoignage qu'il a lui-même rendu...". Intéressant document concernant la capture du vaisseau anglais l'Annibal par Linois, au large de Cadix.

Prinz Karl von Hessen-Kassel (1744-1836) war Feldmarschall in dänischen Diensten und dänischer Statthalter der Herzogtümer Schleswig und Holstein. Den Titel "Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel" erhielt er am 25. Januar 1805, nachdem der regierende Landgraf Wilhelm 1803 im Reichsdeputationshauptschluss zum Kurfürsten erhoben worden war. In der Freimaurerei seiner Zeit spielt er eine führende Rolle. Demandt II, 218. Ehemaliges Bibliotheksexemplar, das Titelblatt mehrfach gestempelt, insgesamt handelt es sich jedoch um ein ordentliches, noch gut erhaltenes Exemplar mit nur leichten Gebrauchsspuren.

182933089February 6 1829. 1829. Very good. - Quarto 9-1/8 inches high by 7-1/4 inches wide. Two-and-a-half pages. Over 180 words penned on 3 sides of a folded sheet. Herbert Taylor thanks the recipient who is caring for his brother for his letter regarding his concerns. "I cannot sufficiently thank you for your friendly & considered attention in writing to me on the 30th Jany upon the subject of the accident which unfortunately happened to my dear Brother on the 27th.". He goes on to state "I thank God that he has escaped more serious injury. It is most satisfying to know that he is in such good hands and that he has with him so kind and attentive a friend as yourself." Signed "H. Tayor". Folded for mailing the letter is mounted to stiff paper stock with glue along the edge of the blank verso of the last leaf. Very good. <p>The British Army officer Lieutenant-General Sir Herbert Taylor 1775-1839 rose through the ranks after jointing the 2nd Dragoon Guards. He served as Aide de camp to the Duke of York then commander-in-chief of the British Army and as Aide de Camp Military Secretary and Private Secretary to the Marquess Cornwallis. In 1805 he became Private Secretary to the Sovereign in service to King George III. He was the first person to fill this post. From 1811 he served as private secretary to Queen Charlotte. Returning to the field to command a brigade at Antwerp in 1813-14 he then served as Member of Parliament for Windsor from 1820-23 and Ambassador to Berlin from 1820 to 1827. He was first and principal Aide de Camp to King George IV and deputy Secretary at War. Adjutant-General to the Forces from 1828-30 he became private secretary to the new king William IV and served as first and principal Aide de Camp to Queen Victoria from 1837-39. He was Master of St. Katherine's Hospital and appointed Master Surveyor and Surveyor-General of the Ordnance in 1828.<p>From the autograph collection of Mrs. Mary Ford widow of Richard Ford who wrote the popular "Handbook for Travellers in Spain". Thick folio a splendid copy with generous margins on large paper in a fine period binding of crimson straight-grained morocco all edges gilt sides panelled in gilt with greek key borders spine panelled in gilt with green leather label. <p><p>A magnificent copy of an officer's vade-mecum the who's who of the British army at a moment in time and as the entire list of British Army officers in 1807 the crucial bible for issues of promotion and preferment as well as location and secondment. This issue is of note for including a breakdown of the officers of the New South Wales Corps p. 311 serving under Colonel Francis Grose the roll call of familiar names beginning with Grose Paterson Foveaux and Johnstone spelled thus.</p> <p>Such publications were sometimes bound in magnificent style as here but do not often survive in this sort of perfect condition.</p> </p> .
