This remarkable volume has hundreds of photographs that document the 1008th which was one of the larger battalions some on smaller islands had as few as sixty men. Laid in are papers of how the Association funds were spent on the printing engravings editing and other task in producing one of the most thorough Seabee volumes at the cost of $9480.50 in 1946. Only two copies are found on OCLC. Also laid in is a mimeographed list of the men and where they were located in the photographs of the entire battalion. A handsome copy near fine bound in brown and blue cloth lettered in brown and blue Owner's subscriber name stamped in gilt to upper board. Disbound three-hole punched some sheets partially double punched. Fair. Illustration of a B-52 on cover sheet. 21 sheets/printed on one side only. Illustrations. Pagination ends at 18 but there is also a sheet 3 A and 5 A and the cover sheet is not numbered. Some pencil comments/notations on some pages. It is extremely rare for this type of ephemeral training material to survive. This work sheet belonged to Alfred A. Zealy. Proudly served his country with the rank of Lt. Col. in the United States Air Force. Served in World War II Korea and Vietnam retiring after 29 years as the Air Advisor at the Milwaukee Based 128th Air Refueling Group. He attended class 57-16. The Central Valley base in unincorporated Merced County was closed 25 years ago in 1995 pursuant to a Base Realignment and Closure Commission decision following the end of the Cold War and the disestablishment of Strategic Air Command SAC. See for example the poem 'Hospital Alphabet' beginning 'A for the Ash trays which get in a mess Our job is to empty them all T.D.S.' A collection of thirty-six poems containing references to the author's Devon roots and to her service in Malta. The opening stanza of the poem 'Treatment I' gives an indication of the general standard: 'A dysentery block is my seat of employment And with a nice Sister my life's an enjoyment But patients' vitality's surely brought low By treatment - prescribed by our lady M.O.'
