Solomon Williams was a pastor at the First Congregational Church of Lebanon Connecticut and father of William Williams Connecticut delegate to the Continental Congress and signer of the Declaration of Independence. According to Grasso's "A Speaking Aristocracy: Transforming Public Discourse in Eighteenth-Century" Solomon Williams argued that "Christ's kingdom was spiritual not worldly. A person can become one of Christ's subjects only by free choice and can so choose only if regenerated." The book has been signed on the front blank by owner Stephen White of Wilton CT 1760 and by his sons James and Jonas. Evans 5521. No ships here but a nice example of an early New England imprint.
