Tracing the life of Theodosius his battles and conquests in the Orient it also deals with his good government piety and fairness. The Abbot addressing his royal reader in the first chapter says that he will not overlook Theodosius' faults including the penance and reconciliation demanded by the Church. Interesting glimpse into early educational techniques as well as a history of this period of 4th century history when Rome was divided between the Western and Eastern Empires. Teodósio nasceu em em Cauca actual Coca Segóvia Espanha no ano 347 e foi o último imperador de um Império Romano unificado o qual após a divisão entre os seus herdeiros nunca mais seria governado por um único homem. Após algumas campanhas militares inconclusivas acabou por fazer um tratado pelo qual os godos preservavam a independência política no interior do Império Romano em troca da obrigação de fornecerem tropas ao exército imperial. Teodósio faleceu em Milão em 395.
