Rare issue of a series of city almanacs for The Hague containing apart from the calendar and usual contents of almanacs extensive information on the institutes schools churches magistrates etc. of the city as well as important rules and laws such as clothing regulations for members of the royal court or how to register a child's birth. The publisher and composer of the almanac Jacob Belinfante dates unknown published these yearly almanacs from 1830 till 1839 as a continuation of the series published by his older brother the Dutch-Jewish journalist and publisher Mozes Cohen Belinfante 1761-1827 with the title Opregte sGravenhaagsche Stads-Almanac 1823-1827.With the library stamp of the Munt Collegie on the half title. The spine has been repaired with blue paper a paper shelf mark label at the foot the wrappers are somewhat browned and water stained. Later marbled paper covered boards; margins trimmed lightly browned; corners worn. Rare French Edition of the pocket Almanac of Gottingen also known as the Gottingen Taschenkalendar. Divided into two parts the first part contains the calendar genealogy of the Royal Houses of Europe and the second part has instructive and entertaining stories with the usual almanac information added at the end including a report of new inventions tables of weights and measures money rates statistics or the population of almost 350 cities. The almanac de Goettingue was one of the best illustrated almanacs of its time it was published in 37 volumes from 1776 until 1813 most of these volumes were printed in German and French editions. Gottingen is an old German city which has medieval roots dating from 1150 and 1200. An ephemeris plural: ephemerides; from the Greek word ἐφήμερος ephemeros ìdailyî is a table of values that gives the positions of astronomical objects in the sky at a given time or times. Different kinds of ephemerides are used for astronomy and astrology. Even though this was also one of the first applications of mechanical computers an ephemeris will still often be a simple printed table. Contents in this copy include a Calendar with gold numbers a Sun cycle and Age of the Moon and dates for important liturgical holidays among them Ash Wednesday Easter and Pentecost. Original and complete series of 12 volumes of an important literary almanac. The work contains a calendar eclipses phases of the moon and sun the tides market days and fairs and postal and transportation facilities in the Province of Zealand as well as historical accounts reports and stories and poems. The folding plates include a city view Zierikzee castle Moermond near Renesse the ruins of the monastery Bethlehem near Elkerzee Castle Baarland 1840 Phases of the moon and eclipses the monastery Sion near Noordgouwe the bathhouse at Domburg and the town-hall at Hulst in the 16th century and in 1845.Many of the short stories and poems were written by well-known 18th and 19th-century Dutch authors such as Petronella Moens 1762-1843 Jacobus Bellami 1757-1786 and Carel Steven Adama van Scheltema 1815-1897. Another regular contributor was the minister Hendrik Marinus Christiaan van Oosterzee 1806-1877 who was the main editor together with J. Berman. Van Oosterzee lived at Elkerzee on the island Schouwen from 1830-1844 and later at Oirschot. In 1840 he became member of the Zeeuws Genootschap. In later years he edited the well-known yearbook Nehallennia 1849-1850 and the Jaarboek Zeeland 1852-1856.With a shelf mark label on the spine of each volume and a deaccession stamp from the Openbare bibliotheek Arnhem on the title page. The wrappers are frayed and creased with some losses the spines have been rubbed with some loss of material the 1838 1839 and 1841 issues have been rebound with the original wrappers mounted on the front board. The leaves are somewhat browned and foxed 2 of the plates are torn the spine of the 1841 issue has broken but the work is still complete the final volume is printed by a different publisher and therefore of a slightly larger size the 1837 issue still with the original prospectus leaf included. Also added to each volume is a part of a continuing extensive chronicle of Zeeland usually illustrated with folding plates. Present here are the volumes for 1777-1780 1785-1788 1790 and 1791-1792. The first volumes were published by Jan Dane but P. Gilissen took over after his death. The final volume which contains a summary of the chronicle published in the other volumes and a separate part with poems and short stories was published by W. A. Keel. The work further include a calendar information on the tides the times of the closing of the gates in the various towns of the province the dates of holidays and markets the times of departure of the ferries the magistrate in the various towns and the value of the various coins.The binding of the 1787 volume has been rubbed and the joints are somewhat weakened the bindings of the other volumes with only minor traces of use. The leaves are slightly browned and occasionally soiled or frayed some folding illustrations with false folds. Langebaard a Turk an Owl and a view of the charitable colony Veenhuizen the work is interleaved. 24 ll. interleaving Charming miniature almanac for the province of Friesland interleaved with blank leaves. The almanac was published by L. Schierbeek in Leeuwarden from 1829-1867 and is now exceptionally rare with most volumes not recorded in sales records or institutions. We have only been able to trace one other copy of the present volume. The present almanac contains a calendar information on how to travel from and to Leeuwarden from various parts of the country and a few illustrated short stories. The first illustration shows a man with a beard so long it had to be held up in one hand which belonged to a certain Pieter Derksz. who lived at Edam in the 16th century. Short histories of Islam the owl and the colony Veenhuizen explain the three other plates.The boards are somewhat rubbed the front joint is nearly broken. The title page is slightly foxed.
