196981679Washington: NASA 1969. 16mm. Film Reel. Very Good. Film reel containing 14 1/2 minute promotional film about the upcoming Apollo 11 Flight which would attempt to put Americans on the Moon. Still in original canister and strapped mailing container. Photocopied "Sound-on-Film" script for the film laid in 13p. plus title-leaf; stapled in upper left corner. While we guarantee it to be playable we haven't attempted to view this film other than to unspool the first bit and look at the first few frames. Appears to be 16mm. Identified on script as Aeronautics and Space Report Program #54 June 1969. According to the script the three astronauts are shown in training and each speaks about the upcoming mission as does Dr. Wernher von Braun. According to the script animation was used for portions of the film landing techniques etc. OCLC lists this promotional film but appears to provide no information as to where it is held. <br/><br/> NASA unknown books

Wrappers occasionally dust-tanned or smudged library blind-stamp in lower fore- corner of first wrapper; chiefly very good. Edited by Pierre de Rohan. Originally subtitled the "Monthly News Bulletin Issued for All Workers on Federal Theatre Projects Throughout America by the Bureau of Research and Publication" then finally abbreviated to the "Bulletin of the Federal Theatre Project." An essential record of the Theatre Project under the direction of Hallie Flanagan. Its aspiration to appear monthly was short-lived and a final third volume appeared evidently terminating in May 1938. The last three issues here indicate efforts to achieve distribution to the public through newsstands and bookshops rather than just to individuals associated with the Project. Those issues were distributed according to a note in pictorial covers rather than in the typographic wrappers evidenced here. Don Freeman contributed several frontispieces including color and there are color plates of marionettes and costume designs. The text ranges from summary reports and projections by Flanagan and others to accounts of specific productions and theatre groups in the North East as well as elsewhere. Very Good. xi 7 46 pp. Head- tailpieces. 8vo: A - D8. 8" x 5-1/4" <br/><br/>The Merchant Maiden Hospital was founded in 1695 for the education of daughters of decayed merchant burgesses of Edinburgh. The chief contributor was Mary Erskine after whom one of Edinburgh's schools is now named. She purchased the original house and garden-grounds near Bristo Park. The school later moved to a building situated beside the Meadows which was begun in1816. It is of Grecian character and accommodated about 80 girls between the ages of seven and seventeen. The building included sleeping accommodation three school-rooms a meeting room a kitchen washing house laundry and a chapel. The highest floor consisted of a series of rooms extending the whole length of the building used for drying clothes during the winter months. Mary Erskine later went on to found the Trades' Maiden Hospital in Edinburgh. This copy bound with other material on Maiden Hospital see TavBooks ID #39863. Fold-out pamphlet. 23" x 17 1/2".<br/><br/> This pictorial map of the Old Northwest Territory showing from Mississippi River to the Ohio River and the eastern border of Ohio is as full of historical detail as it is informative. The larger map in the center highlights the Old Northwest Territory within the context of the surrounding states. Pictorial icons and labels offer a peek into important historical events in the area and data such as battles fought and population statistics. At the top of the page a series of explanatory maps delineate how the US came into possession of the Northwest Territory most notably showing Indian dispossession. An inset on the left side of the page explains Thomas Jefferson's conception for the subdivision of this new territory into states. Some of the more interesting ideas he had for states include "Polypotania" and "Cherronesus." Finally a series of maps at the bottom of the page show how each state came to be. Coin collection can to raise funds for the Job March on Washington held in 1937 and organized by the Workers Alliance after cuts were made to the WPA budget. Only 2500 marchers made it to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington this empty can numbered in manuscript "no. 113" apparently not seeing any use. Additionally because of the ill timing of the event late August 1937 the marchers found Congress "in the throes of adjournment fever and in no mood to consider unemployment and relief problems" The Pittsburgh Press August 22 1937. Indeed news articles from a couple months later look back on the job march as something of a non-event. Place of publication based on union slug. unknown books

By examining the experience of the transient program this report has been able to isolate a number of widely-held misconceptions about transients and transient relief. Analysis of the reasons why migrant families left home and of their subsequent travels reveals that they were not - as is so commonly believed - irresponsible and degraded groups addicted to chronic wandering. On the contrary a large majority of them were habitually settled and self-supporting families dislodged by the depression and seeking reestablishment elsewhere. 14708Providence Rhode Island: Jenks & Ballou 1957. First Edition. Binder. Very Good. First Edition. A large report bulking nearly an inch thick of a report done by Jenks and Ballou a consulting engineering firm for the International Cooperation Administration in Washington DC in 1957. The engineers involved went around the world reviewing pumping and irrigation plants in Japan Hong Kong and other places. The report is summarized in the first 20 pages followed by some 130 pages of details. There are original photographs pasted into the report with legends describing what the reader is looking at. A few appear to be missing. Binder. Stamped "Official Use Only" throughout this is one of perhaps a handful of copies distributed and is an interesting view into the engineering best practices of the time and the irrigation challenges faced in Pakistan for this project. The work was done under contract PIO/T 91 - 12 - 026 - 3 - 70868 and the report is dated December 1957. Jenks & Ballou unknown books
