1869boz_006601Prince Joachim Murat - 2 lettres autographes signées - Steeple-chases - 1869 Ensemble de deux lettres autographes signées de Joachim Murat, 4ᵉ prince Murat (1834-1901), petit-fils du maréchal Joachim Murat et de Caroline Bonaparte, général du Second Empire et président de la Société des Steeple-Chases de France. La première lettre est datée du 23 décembre 1869 à Gros Bois. La seconde lettre n'est pas datée. Première lettre rédigée à l'encre noire sur feuillet de papier vergé filigrané, avec en en-tête un chiffre couronné imprimé en brun-rouge. Seconde lettre rédigée au crayon sur feuillet de papier vergé bruni. Dans la première lettre, le prince Murat presse son correspondant, officier, de venir à Paris pour une réunion du comité du Cercle de la rue Royale et lui suggère de solliciter de son colonel une permission d'une dizaine de jours. Dans la seconde, il propose de demander cinquante hommes de troupe afin d'établir un service d'ordre tout autour de la piste, et convoque chez lui quatre correspondants pour le vendredi suivant. Dimensions : 1ère lettre : 13,1 x 20,6 cm ; 2ème lettre : 10,6 x 14,7 cm État : Première pièce en bon état général, plis d'origine inhérents à l'envoi, légères rousseurs et petites piqûres éparses, angle inférieur droit légèrement corné. Seconde pièce en bon état général, papier empoussiéré, deux plis horizontaux, écriture au crayon partiellement estompée mais lisible. Voir photos pour plus de détails. Murat was an American newspaper editor and magazine writer as well as a war correspondent for three wars including the Spanish-American War. Halstead writes about Cuba's history and his own experiences and observations in Cuba during the1850's and throughout Cuba's first and second wars of independence against Spain including the Ten Years' War 1868-1878 including a detailed account of the Virginius Affair also known as the "Spanish Butchery": a conflict that occurred between between the U.S. the United Kingdom and Spain then in control of Cuba during the years 1873 and 1875. "Virginius was a fast American ship hired by Cuban insurrectionists to land men and munitions in Cuba to attack the Spanish regime there. It was captured by the Spanish who wanted to try the men onboard many of whom were American and British citizens as pirates and execute them.
