Texte initialement publié dans "Le Tour du Monde" en 1899 et 1900. Intéressant récit du voyage du général Galliéni, gouverneur de Madagascar depuis 1896, effectué pendant les mois de juin à septembre 1898 autour de l'île. Son but était de résoudre des questions d'ordre militaire, économique et administratif et de juger de l'état d'avancement de la "pacification". Récit de nature hagiographique mais qui laisse découvrir des aspects insolites de la réalité locale, illustré par une abondante iconographie. First Edition. In 1879 Captain Galliéni was appointed by Colonel Brière de l'Isle Governor of Senegal to investigate the route for a railway in the upper Niger region and to reopen communications with the almany Ahmadu. The post of Bafulabé was constructed at this time. From Bafulabé they continued to a point north of Fangalla and pushed on to Kita Bamako and the village of Nango close to Segu. They were detained there for a period of ten months managing to conclude a contract with the almany Ahmadu and returned to St. Louis through Manding and Birgo.
