Première et unique édition française de cet ouvrage composé par un proche de Tolstoï et traduit du russe (Opyt sotsiologii, nauki ustroistva…, Genève, 1883). L'essai, qui se présente comme un projet de "collectivisme d'Etat humanitaire" sous la tutelle d'une "Fédération Républicaine Universelle", contient, de fait, un programme révolutionnaire radical de terreur et de collectivisation forcée. "Les combattants peuvent traiter sans pitié les pillards d'État, même leurs parents ou leurs enfants ; ils ne sont pas pour cela des scélérats, mais de vrais humanitaires, car, par leurs actes énergiques et par leur abnégation, ils aident à la démolition de l'ordre établi et à la réalisation d'une vie humanitaire et collective". Quant au travail scientifique, "il faudra fonder une Faculté fédérative des sociologues" afin d'élaborer un "critérium sociologique qui mettra fin à la spoliation gouvernementale et réalisera le bien-être général".
